For people between the ages of 5 and 24, drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death. Sometimes swimming lessons result in less fear of the water. This is good but can also give everyone a false sense of security when their confidence is greater than their abilities. Lessons are best at age four - before that they lack coordination for swimming.
